Jacob and Josef Kohn Bentwood Bistro Table
Found in France, a striking bentwood bistro table marked Jacob and Josef Kohn of Vienna, Austria. Graceful and iconic. Jacob Kohn and his son Josef Kohn founded their company in 1849, and would later become one of the leading furniture makers in Austria-Hungary, and a main competitor of Gebrüder Thonet. Their works can be seen in a number of museums today, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Kohns’ company merged with Mundus in 1914, and the name became Kohn-Mundus, dating this table to pre-1914. Kohn-Mundus then merged with Thonet in 1922.
