Antique Italian Frame

A unique and very old carved frame from Italy. The hinged back of the oval opens to allow a glass and photo or a mirror to be inserted and secured with a hook and eye latch. A substantial portion of the surface has been worn and broken down to natural wood while the remaining painted surface retains only traces of the original gold leaf. A stand will need to be added as the original is missing. It is the story told by these ravages of time that add to the exquisite and magical quality of this sumptuous piece.
