Antique Bible Box
An old writing box found with a treasured bible and an exquisite pair of wire-rimmed glasses tucked neatly inside. The box is obviously earlier than the bible, which is dated 1953, while the glasses are likely the oldest item in the group. The hinged box has a carved and painted emblem on the top, a small key escutcheon with no key, and a painted bottom rim. The interior of the lid has an inset of blue velvet, a small drawer, and a compartment containing an inkwell. A letter dated March 8, 1934 to Mrs. Grace Richer of West Newbury, Massachusetts, containing a purple ribbon from the 1928 Maine State Fair is found inside the bible along with an obituary and a number of newspaper clippings of a religious nature. Loved and cared for throughout a lifetime, this is a treasure.
